Academic podcast editing and post-production

Complicated ideas, made clear · Names and terms checked against your glossary · Fixed quote for your grant budget

You run the interviews. I handle the podcast editing and post-production, and turn the recordings into finished episodes your department, funder or audience can rely on: clean sound, pacing that respects the material, and every name and term spelt the way you spell it.

Who it's for

University departments and centres with a series
Academics and scholars running their own show
Researchers taking their work to a wider audience
Public engagement work that needs to sound professional

Hard ideas, easy to follow

Your listeners aren't in the room. They can't ask you to go back a step. So I cut the tangent that buries the point and tighten the answer that circles before it lands, and I leave the pauses that let a difficult idea settle. Nobody is reworded or made to say anything they didn't. The argument just reaches the listener without the clutter in front of it.

How it works

01

Tell me about the project

How many episodes, how long they run, and the date your funder or term cares about. You get a fixed quote you can put straight into a budget.

02

Send recordings and a glossary

A short list of speaker names, institutions and specialist terms is enough. I spell everything from it, not from a transcription engine's best guess.

03

Get finished episodes back

Mastered audio, tagged and named, with a transcript. Delivered within 7 days of receiving each batch.

What every episode gets

Background noise out, voices levelled, loudness set for podcast platforms
Ums, false starts and tangents trimmed, without changing what anyone said
Intro, outro and music assembled from your template
Names, titles and terms checked against your glossary
A transcript delivered with the final episode
Masters tagged with metadata and cover art

The practical bits

Academic podcast editing: common questions

How much does academic podcast editing cost?

Academic shows run on the standard podcast packages. Most sit on Tier 2, Editorial, at £195 an episode for up to 90 minutes of raw recording, or £155 if the raw recording is under 45 minutes. Tier 1, Finalisation, is £95 and Tier 3, Strategic Production, is £495. Prices are ex-VAT. For a series, I quote the whole project up front. Other formats are on the podcast pricing page.

What is the difference between podcast editing and post-production?

Editing is cutting the recording. Post-production is everything between the raw recording and a published episode: cleaning the audio, tightening the pacing, assembling intros and music, mastering to a consistent loudness, tagging the files and delivering them ready to upload. Every package includes the post-production. The tiers differ in how much editorial work goes into the conversation itself.

Will you understand specialist terms and names?

You send a short glossary of speaker names, institutions and specialist terms, and I check every episode against it. Nobody is reworded or made to say anything they didn't.

How long does it take?

Finished episodes are delivered within 7 days of receiving your files, with one round of revisions included. Rush turnaround is available at +25%. More on how podcast post-production works.

Do you provide transcripts?

Yes. A transcript is delivered with the final episode on Tier 2 and Tier 3.

Can you work with a series or a whole project?

Yes. Tell me the episode count, typical length and your deadline, and I'll send a fixed quote for the whole project, so the figure in your budget is the figure on the invoice.

Do you only work with UK universities?

No. I'm based in the UK, and clients elsewhere are quoted and invoiced in their own currency.
